$3,000 Rebates for electric vehicle purchases

The NSW Government is offering $3,000 rebates for the first 25,000 new battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles with a dutiable value of less than $68,750.

This incentive, along with the abolition of stamp duty, will save eligible EV purchasers up to $5,540, and help drive the uptake of EVs to more than 50% of all car sales by 2030-31.

If you register an eligible vehicle from 1 September 2021, you can claim back your rebate.

Electric Vehicle Rebate Guidelines

Eligibility Criteria and Application Process

October 2021

The NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy outlines a number of incentives to encourage the purchase of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in NSW. One of the incentives offered by the NSW Government is a cash rebate of $3,000 on 25,000 eligible vehicles. We know that upfront purchase price is one of the barriers hindering purchase of electric vehicles, and this rebate, together with a stamp duty exemption, is intended to address this barrier and encourage the uptake of electric vehicles in NSW.

We know that the upfront cost is a major deterrent for many people considering buying an EV. The abolition of stamp duty, along with the NSW Government’s significant rebate, will save new EV purchasers up to $5,540.
